In celebration of its 30th Anniversary, the first major revival of Willy Russell’s heart-warming comedy Shirley Valentine will embark on a UK Tour in 2017.
Shirley Valentine tells the story of a middle-aged Liverpool housewife who secretly packs her bags for a two-week holiday to Greece after which she starts to see the world, and herself, very differently.
Willy Russell is best known for Educating Rita and Blood Brothers and one of the most successful playwrights of his generation. Shirley Valentine premiered in 1986 at the Liverpool Everyman with a West End premiere in 1988 and was adapted into an Oscar nominated film starring Pauline Collins and Tom Conti
Jodie Prenger, best known for winning the role of Nancy in Oliver! on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC series I’d Do Anything, will star in this one-woman play. Jodie most recently played the title role in the national tour of Calamity Jane and has also starred in Tell Me On a Sunday and One Man, Two Guvnors.
